LZ RUSSELL, Quang Tri Provence, RVN, 1968 - 1969, H-BTRY, 3/12, ECHO 2/4: 3rd MAR DIV, Northern most FSB in Vietnam was over-run on Feb.25, 1969 in what the Stars & Stripes called a "suicide attack" by RVN sappers. Most of our people were wounded and med-evaced out of country. Jarheads, checking in again as I have just finished getting together with an old high school friend and Vietnam brother. John Kling was in 3/3 weapons platoon and was wounded on hill 881 in 1967. His unit took many casualties and he was lucky to get out. He was on a hospital ship, not the Repose or the Sanctuary. I don't remember the name. Hello Gentlemen, I'm a United States History teacher @ Bruner Middle School in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. Very interested and trying to educate myself on Marine Corp History and involvment in the Pacific island hoping campaign during WWII. One of my students gave me a copy picture of her grandfather who was in HqCo.1stBn, 21st Mar(Rein), 3rd MarDiv,FMF while fighting on Guam. I want to know more infor on this part of the campaign. I know that the fighting was fierce on the island, but I was wondering if you could put me in touch with a Marine who was there and be willing to tell their story. It's been awhile since I've dropped in so I thought I'd share this with all you jarheads. I just got back from Las Vegas where I reunited with two of my bro's from the Corps. We shared old pictures and letters from Nam and relived the old stories that never die..It's amazing what I'd forgotten about those days. If your like me, you only share those special moments with your brothers from Corps. It's a connection that brings comfort to your soul. Like they say, once a Marine... If you get a chance to be with your old bro's don't pass it up, there's nothing like it.
