James Redden Hoosick Falls -- James Redden, 78, a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, died on Friday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Born February 9, 1924 in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of the late Frank and Alida Vandenberg Redden. Jim was also the loving husband of the former Marian E. Ort. They were married on May 18, 1946 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady.

He served with the 2nd Division of the 3rd Marine Division in the Pacific Theater from April of 1943 until May of 1945. He also participated against Japanese forces at Bougenville in 1943 and Guam in 1944. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on November 7, 1945. Jim and his wife, Marian, owned and operated both “The Barn” which was a restaurant and bar on Route 22 in Hoosick Falls for five years in the 60's and Redden's Picnic Grove for 19 years. Mr. Redden was also employed by Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls for over 21 years, retiring in 1983. He was past president of both the Derby Club and the Eagles Club. Jim was also a life member and 3rd Vice Commander of the V.F.W. Post 8417. He was also a former member of the Hoosick Falls B.P.O.E.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marian E. Redden; a daughter, Diane M. “Dee–Dee” Martin of Brunswick; a son, Douglas J. Redden; and a grandson, Robert D. Redden, both of Hyde Park, NY; a sister, Margaret Rhodes of Pownal, VT; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Francis, who died on April 30, 2002.

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 11 from the Robson–Reinfurt Funeral Home, 72 Main St., Hoosick Falls where the Rev. Gunther Pagel will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Went through boot camp at PI Platoon 2010 Oct. 29th 1965 to Dec. then to Geiger, stated with MSG2 H&HS2 at Cherry Point, N.C. before going to Nam. Last duty station was Parris Island when I returned from Nam in Oct. of 1968 with Battalion Supply then. In Nam I was a grunt with Battalion Supply there. Anyone that was there during those periods please contact me. Like to hear from other Marines. az_xmarine46@msn.com

Looking for anyone who served with me in these units. Have had two reunions of Fox 2/9 "63-'64 and had really great turnouts. Don't forget the Third Marine Division Association Reunion is Sept. 4 - 8th in San Diego. This will give us a chance to once agian see a graduation at MCRD and to go up and review our past at Camp Pendleton. Check out the changes since you were there last. I can tell you one thing for sure, when you go aboard MCRD as a part of a reunion, you are given the V.I.P. treatment and that is something we didn't get much of there as a recruit. I will always get a special feeling when I see those NEW Marines on Graduation Day. The pride lives on! Semper Fi Marines. God Bless one and all.

I am researching info on my dad's service at Iwo Jima. I suspect he was attached to the 21st Marines (to provide communications), although he was officially part of the HQ Battalion. He sailed to Iwo on the U.S.S. President Jackson and returned to Guam aboard the U.S.S. Celeno. I would welcome any information from people who served with him.

Thank you, and thank you for your service. Diane Preston
