I spent time at Phu Bai,Dong Ha and Cam Lo;as well as a number of places where I had no idea where I was. Comments: Edward M. Popek, my grandfather, served with 3rd Regt, 3rd Marine Division on Guadalcanal and fought at Bougainville. I don't know his Co. or Btn. units yet. He was a scout and got malaria after Bougainville, missing the 3rd Marine Division's fight at Iwo Jima (fortunate for me since he would probably have been killed). He later served in China after the war. Ed was from New Jersey and died in 1984. I would like to hear from any Marine WWII vets who knew him. Thank You.
