Over forty years ago the marines taught me duty honor and love of country that has not changed in my thinking to this day.I am as willing to give my life for my contry as I was then. I love America, and will defend it to my last breath. The Proud Americans on Flight 93 have given us the answer to this situation and it is CODE 93 the rules of CODE 93 are very simple, anyone observing someone doing harm or attempting to do harm to any American will be taken out, putdown,or elliminated even if it means our death. So all terrorist take note we are vigilent, we are not politically correct we will not hesitate. SEMPER PHI

I'm reporting the passing of my Dad, Virgil Niederhuth, to cancer last month. He was in 28th Bn replacements joining "A" Co,1st Bn,9th Marines,3rd Marine Division at Iwo Jima where he was wounded Feb 26, 1945 and later received the Purple Heart. I have his uniform that he kept to this day and a scrapbook (that I've gone over & over) that my Mom kept from mid 1944 to 1946 when he returned home on the carrier "Bunker Hill". He was a great Dad and I'm sure a fine Marine, I'll miss him a lot...

Semper Fi! It has been several months since I have corresponded with this site. For this I am so sorry, but I have gotten married and you all know that is like going to bootcamp. ha ha ha Seriously, I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to all of you connected with the Corps. This is a sad day. I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I am so glad that my father;who was a WWII Marine in the South Pacific;is not with us today. I beleive he would be broken hearted to see what is happening and will happen. Keep the faith and know that we are all proud of you and your committment to our nation.

G'day: I joined the 1/3/3 in the 34th Replacement Battalion on Guadalacanal, served as Corpsman in Able Co. and Hdqtrs Co. for the Guam/Iwo Jima campaigns, then in China and Japan from Sept. to November '46 the latter months on "Magic Carpet Duty." On the Canal Australian diggers gave me Aussie fever so in 1965 I returned to analyze investments of a Hollywood group. My book "Texas Jack's Australian Outback Dream" published in Sept. 2001, orders@american-book.com - American Book Publishing tells the story. Let me hear from you. Goodonyou, Doc Fletcher

I was in the 34th Replacement Battalion joining the 1st battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment on Guadalacanal in 1943. I served with Able Company and Headquarters Company through the Guam and Iwo Jima campaigns. Being USN rather than USNR I was sent to Japan and China on "Magic Carpet Duty" following Japan's surrender. Every August 18 a holiday - we turned in our "782 gear, rifles, etc." there on Guam on August 18, 1945. Visiting Aussies on the Canal gave me fever for the Down Under country so after coming here on assignment for Art Linkletter & Associates I stayed to co-found a major farm and ranching entity. My book just in print - orders@american-book.com. Semper Fi!

what a site. I write poetry about Veterans. and this site just moved me to tears and my soul has been touched.here is the one poem that has ben published and i want to share it with you. A Stone Soldier On a bright sunny day a soldier stood saluting the Wall made up of a group of faces brother's,sister's,Buddie were their names. As hundreds of thousands of them stood to salute this Stone Soldier back.(Army,Navy,Air Force,Marines) A single tear rolled silently down his cheek. An Air Force fly over startled him,"Missing man formation "? He wondered why???This canot be As the Stone Solldier turnes around to see his name upon the Wall looking at he.. His heart became cold and still. the tear upon his cheek a solid crystal lite and it was he that was looking out from the Wall to see his son looking for he....He was looking for me....says the stone soldier he was looking for me... writen by carole rice

My father-in-law, Merle V. Wells, was in the 3rd Marine Division in WWII from March 1943 until December 1945, and served at Mare Island, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He died in 1991, but we would like to know if anyone remembers him and has any stories to relate. Also we are looking for the 3rd Marines Division Book of WWII. He had a copy after he was discharged but it was destroyed in a fire. Thanks for any tips you can give us.

Looking for information concerning the USMC Replacement Draft that replenished the 3RD Marine Division on Guam in summer of 1944. Draft was formed at Camp Pendleton (probably) from Marines on the West Coast. I believe the Replacement Draft sailed from Camp Pendleton, CA to Hawaii on the USS BARNSTABLE and from Hawaii to Guam on board the SLAUGHTERDIKE. Information pertains to my cousin, PFC Walter Ray Thetford from Mississippi. He joined the Marines in March 1944, attended boot camp in San Diego and joined Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment on Guam through the Replacement Draft. He was later KIA on Iwo Jima. I am attempting to identify the Replacement Draft number and boot camp platoon number. Any information would be appreciated.
