My father, Claude H. Dorris served with the 3rd Marines during Vietnam as the squad leader of a combined action platoon (H-6), and was killed in a large multi-unit attack on 7 Jan 68. I have done some research into the CAP units but was wondering if someone could give me a wider description of the Phu Loc district in Thua Thien, where his CAP unit was (Nuoc Ngot village).
Sincerely,
Eric P. Dorris

I am looking for anyone who may have been at LZ Stud April 9, 1969 when a CH-53 crashed onto the uper LZ. The ammo dump exploded leaving only a small Red Sign LZ Stud/Vandergrift. It was a black spot. Daily Logs from Golf 2/4 show only that we lost a water buffalo with fausetts for filling cantines. Not true everything was blown up including me as I sat in a bunker right off the LZ next to the tower. The bunker was full of Marines. The bunkers were two culvert tubes covered in gravel.

My Dad Richard J. Marquette served with 21st Marines 3rd Btl I Co Guam & Iwo Jima, was with Capt Rockmore when Capt was KIA Airfield #2 Iwo. When I was 17 and read about I Co and only 16 men not causalities, I asked him. All he ever said was "I was one of the lucky ones, Son". I'll never forget that, I would like to know more. I do know a piece of shrapnel went thru his pack. He was a Mess Sgt on Guam after Iwo. If you or a family member knew him or have info please contact me.

I was lucky to be sent on r & r to Subic Manila in 1965 after service in Borneo. Met the 3rd Marines there on their way eastwards. Made some great friends amongst them, they were very kind to us. It is too much to hope but I hope they all come home alive. One friend in particular was Sgt william Conn 3rd marine Div, happy Days!
